COVID-19 Update #4

COVID-19 Update Since the beginning of the outbreak of COVID-19, Taiwan has been a leader in the response and handling of the virus. Through a rapid ramp-up of safety protocols and the expedited innovation of testing capabilities and procedures, Taiwan was able to keep its overall cases below 500 with only 6 deaths. They have once again shown how they are the leaders in the response through the development of a 1-hour test that has a 90% accuracy.  Another amazing aspect of this test is that it can detect the virus in the early stages of the incubation period.  They anticipate being...

COVID-19 Update #3

COVID-19 Update Given the amount of good news that we’ve shared regarding our fight with COVID-19 over the last two weeks, there’s little surprise that the news is better than initially expected.  In almost all states, we have effectively flattened the curve and eliminated or minimized the shortages of major resources such as hospital beds, intensive care beds, and ventilators.  According to some projections, America as a whole is only a few days away from the peak resource usage and will be heading down the curve as the COVID-19 cases continue to slow. The CDC made an important addition to their recommendations this week...

COVID-19 Update #2

While the past few weeks have felt like months (especially if you have a child at home), a lot has happened. COVID-19 Update Building on what we talked about in our last post, there continues to be a lot to mention regarding advancements in the fight against COVID-19. We started the week off on a strong note with the announcement that Johnson & Johnson identified a lead vaccine candidate, with expedited trials starting in September and the potential to bring it to market by early 2021. This timeline is among the fastest available to bring a product to market safely – amazing...

COVID-19 Update #1

COVID-19 Update This week we were reminded of the amazing ingenuity within our country and our ability to reunite and work together, for the greater good of humanity.  While life as we knew it may have appeared to come to a screeching halt, Americans refused to be complacent. We witnessed some of America’s largest corporations using their knowledge, talent, and resources to start producing many of the critical items that healthcare workers have been telling us they were in critical need of.  Ford teamed with both General Electric’s healthcare unit and 3M to boost the production of ventilators, respirators, and other...

January 2020 Portfolio Updates

We are now nearly one month into the new year and the new decade. An interesting fact that has been a topic of discussion in the investing community recently is that the US economy didn’t experience a recession this past decade. While this might not surprise you, what may is the fact that this is the first time since the Great Depression that this has happened. According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the US economy has, on average, experienced a recession roughly every four and a half (4.5) years. That said, we still believe in the strength and...

The SECURE Act: Three Major Changes to Retirement Rules

This Tuesday the House of Representatives passed the Year-End spending bill to fund the government through 2020. This in and of itself is a really great thing for our country, however, what was “attached” to the spending bill may be even more powerful for you, the everyday investors. The Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Act of 2019, or commonly referred to as the SECURE Act, was attached to the spending bill which was sent to the Senate and is expected to vote on it by the end of the week. This act has been referred to as the most...

In Focus – Fed Rate Cut

What’s happening?   What’s going on? On September 18th, the Federal Reserve voted to reduce short-term rates by 0.25% to cushion the U.S. economy against a global slowdown. The Fed’s decision to reduce rates follows their rate cut in July, in which Fed Chairman Powell stated that they would “act appropriately to sustain the expansion,” words that were repeated in the most recent statement from September’s meeting.   Why is it important? Interest rate cuts are typically viewed as defensive moves by the Federal Reserve to avoid an inevitable recession; however that is not their motivation in this instance. The Fed sees their decision as an...
